St. Leo the Great

Since 1881, the bells of St. Leo's have marked the hours, the seasons, and the great feast days of Baltimore's Little Italy.
Built by the Archdiocese of Baltimore for the neighborhood's Italian immigrants, St. Leo the Great has been the spiritual and social heart of Little Italy for well over a century. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its handsome brick facade and golden statue look out over the very streets its parishioners built.
Generations of Little Italy families have been baptized, married, and remembered here. The church remains the anchor of the neighborhood's beloved feast traditions — the Feast of St. Anthony in late spring and the Feast of St. Gabriele in August — each beginning with Mass and a procession of the faithful through the streets.
