Bocce in the piazza.
There may be no more Little Italy way to spend a summer evening than a game of bocce under the lights — and the neighborhood's courts are open to everyone.
The bocce courts at D'Alesandro Park (902 Stiles Street) are open to the public — bring your own bocce balls, as they aren't provided on site. On a warm night you'll find neighbors and newcomers alike rolling a few frames.
Organized league play runs May through September, with the courts most active on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings. During the summer feast-day festivals and the Columbus Day celebration, the courts host lively tournaments.
New to the game? Show up and ask — someone will happily walk you through the rules.
