ndeed it was
from Italy that the neighborhood’s original
families derived – immigrants who moved into
this small Baltimore district during the 20th century to
remain banded together in their new home – America.
Generations later, many of Little Italy’s long
skinny row homes are still owned by their families;
it remains a tight-knit community … because there is
nothing more important to Italians than
la famiglia
(the family).
Located near other quaint Baltimore neighborhoods like
Canton, Federal Hill, Fells Point and Harbor East, Little
Italy is reachable by car, water taxi, Metro Subway, and a
short walk from the Inner Harbor.
If
you’re visiting in the summer, be sure to
coincide with one of the many
Italian-related events
offered by the handful of organizations that comprise
the neighborhood. Just to name a few … there’s the Saint
Anthony festival in June, the St. Gabriel festival in
August, the Friday night Open Air Film Fest in
July/August.
