Often, people seek out their roots … stories of their
ancestors' lives. Yet such history cannot be found in books or genealogy
archives. To find out who our ancestors were and what they were like as
people – their personalities and experiences – it is necessary to find
others who knew them.
Little Italy Lodge members include artisans, highly
skilled tradesmen, doctors, lawyers, and artists, many who hold long and
detailed memories of those Italians with which they grew up. They have
insiders’ knowledge of "the neighborhood" – its’ past and present.
The Lodge offers many events including their popular
Friday night dinners for $9.50. There’s monthly bingo, card games, day
trips, raffles, sock hops and more. On a more serious note, The Little
Italy Lodge offers the La Famiglia Scholarship Fund, established
through the generosity of lodge members. It provides financial aid to
members and their families, and to high school seniors planning to
continue a higher education.
The Little Italy Lodge is a welcoming and pleasant
gathering spot for sharing Italian heritage, customs and culture. So
step inside, as a new member or as our guest, to hear the wonderful
tales of Little Italy and its people.
“When we were growing up in Little Italy there were three bread
bakeries: Scelsi's, Marinelli's, and Impallaria’s. We didn't eat cereal
at our house. Mr. Scelsi's bread was one short block away, hot from the
oven. We ate it with sweet butter and damson plum jelly, which was
mother's favorite.”
